The People’s Film Collective is a political-cultural collective based in West Bengal, India. A solely funded organisation, the platform uses alternative films as a pedagogy to reach out to its audience with the aim of creating awareness and dialogue around the various burning socio-political issues in the country. Besides its initiative of regular monthly film screenings in Kolkata, India, the Travelling Cinema and Children’s Cinema arm of the group regularly travels with screening equipment on their backs to various parts in the state engaging the people through political movies and documentaries with a discussion about topics that are affecting them. Besides being involved in organising these events as an activist myself since 2018, I started documenting the encounters between the members and their selfless enthusiasm and the appreciation and response received from the public that would eventually turn each of the shows into a meaningful and engrossing dialogue dissecting the issues affecting the society.
